Highlights of the Tour:
-
The town of Miri developed rapidly from a
small village in the 1800s into the very cosmopolitan and modern
town it is today largely due to the discovery of oil when it was
first discovered in 1910. The first oil well, now known as the
Grand Old Lady, sits on Canada Hill. The tour will takes you on
a visit to the biggest Chinese Temple (Taoist) in South East
Asia and continue on to the bustling Farmer's Market, commonly
known as "Tamu", where you will see a huge variety of local
vegetables, fruits and other food brought in by the natives and
local farmers from around Miri. After lunch in a local
restaurant, we will visit the crocodile farm at Kuala Baram.
Aside from crocodiles, the farm also houses red carps and mini
zoo of reptiles and wildlife. Then stop at the Sarawak Pottery
Centre before driving through the oil refinery district of
Lutong/Piasau and the older part of Miri town known for its
local bazaars. If you like, we can stop to pick up local
souvenirs and handicraft before returning to your hotel.
