The tour begins with a morning drive through
scenic countryside populated by oil palm plantations and local
pepper farms to the Niah National Park, located about 110kms
away. On arrival at the Park, we will take a longboat ride at
Pangkalan Lobang across the river to reach the Niah Museum for
our first visit. Then head on to the Niah Caves reportedly one
of the earliest birthplaces of civilisation in Asia. The
oldest human remains were found in Niah making the park one of
the most important archaeological sites in the world. A tour of
the cave will take you through the Great and Painted Caves as
well as allowing you to see the age-old remnants of bird's nest
harvesting equipment inside the cave (now a government
controlled activity). After an approximately 3-hour tour of the
caves, we will stop at the Niah park canteen for a local lunch
before returning to Miri. On our way back, stop at an Iban
longhouse for a short visit and cultural insight into this
aboriginal tribe.
